I got up early and went to the hospital with my mom. Dad was pretty out of it, but he seemed to enjoy the company. He especially enjoyed my ice chips. I had to go home to get Fiona. After I had made and announced my plans on Saturday to have lunch with some old friends, TD said he had to play baseball with his uncle.... Yeah, I was kind of peeved about that. I mean sometimes, I am guilty of making plans and not telling him what I was planning on. That did not happen this time. My sister, the one with the baby, took Buttercup with her on her errands. Buttercup had the greatest time, she absolutely loves this aunt of hers. But this left me with Princess Fiona for a trip to Olive Garden.
Let's backtrack right there. We used to bribe Fiona with trips to the Olive Garden in order for her to take her medicine. She had this major thing for breadsticks, like seriously major thing, she actually swallowed her tons of pills in order for her to get to go to Olive Garden.
So when we get there, she empties the breadstick basket and starts ordering the waiter around. I had a great time and she was actually reasonably well behaved. Comments from eye witnesses?
I also took Fiona to See's before we went to Olive Garden. My sister bought See's gift cards from Costco, which is the cheaper way to do it. So, we went there on Valentine's Day. Yeah, I know, but it was lucky because this See's was closed that Monday because of President's Day and if I would've waited I would never have made it. Fiona and I waited around and enjoyed our sample. I have missed the chocolate store, that's what Fiona used to call it.
Then I spent more time with my dad. I am so grateful that I couldn't pick any other weekend than this one. I mean I tried to buy plane tickets for other weekends, but I kept coming back to this one, even though I knew it wasn't going to be a great time for me,physically, and it wasn't. At first I thought it was because of my sister's new baby being blessed that weekend, but that wasn't it.
This time, my dad was doing so well they had already moved him out of the critical care unit, which meant Fiona could finally see her grandpa. It had been a year and a half and a year of chemo since he had seen her last. One awesome thing about Fiona? Hospitals do not bother her one bit. She was very comfortable hanging out with grandpa. We didn't spend too much time because we would be talking and then he would snore for about 5 seconds. Then he said," Just because my eyes are closed doesn't mean I can't hear you." Fiona thought that was hysterically funny and pointed out that he can't hear us when he's snoring.
My day, spent with my favorite curly haired sweetheart, turned out great. It wasn't my typical Valentine's Day, but I think it was my best in years.
