Update on Happenings

So, things have mostly gotten back to normal. TD stayed home for a week. I was constantly feeding him and reminding him to take his medicine. He got some antibiotics that he had to take every six hours. So, if he woke me up in the middle of the night, I had to remind him to take it. I also became an expert at coming up with new and exciting soft foods.

We went to see his Primary Care doc and she said he looked fine. She also gave us a mouth rinse to try. It works for sores in your mouth as well, two parts Maalox to one part liquid Benadryl. It really seem to work at healing up his tongue. The stitches were far enough back in his tongue, that I couldn't really see it, unless he made an effort. But, after a few days with the mouth rinse, his tongue was much pinker and healthier looking. That made me feel a lot better. I didn't want to have to make an appointment with an oral surgeon to have part of his tongue cut off.

The next week, I spent at least an hour every morning driving TD to work. Ugh, what a pain. It's amazing how I get off and running every morning and don't stop, at all, until about 11am. Well, this really put a kink in that. I couldn't do my regular chores because TD was sleeping and then by the time I got back, I needed to go to the Y and when I got home and ate lunch, I didn't want to do anything else. I was very lucky though. TD has a colleague that lives near by and would drop him off really close to our house and I would just have to go and get him from there. I can't imagine having to go and pick him up after the girls got home from school.

Then, ten days after the incident, I got the distinct privilege of taking out TD's staples. I know, I know, I hear all of that "ew, gross!", etc. But, let me remind you that if I can take the inch long needle out of my four year old's chest, more than once, I can take a staple remover to a grown man. I did really well. TD only flinched once. In my defense some of the staples were put over the top of others.

He does seem to be suffering from post concussive syndrome. He gets dizzy sometimes, or finds it hard to concentrate. Hopefully, with time, these things will go away. All in all, I feel pretty lucky that we got off so easily.
