When TD was promoted to a lower level manager, I took on the duties of ironing his clothes. Previous to this, I was kind of busy and didn't care! He relied on his family's weird habit of throwing stuff into a warm dryer for 5 minutes and calling it good. Seriously. One time, one of his uncles spent the night at our house and threw his sweats into our dryer, for the allotted five minutes, for the 3 hour drive home from Eugene to Medford....this one still hurts my brain to think about. Were they really that wrinkled? Was he expecting to see someone who would scorn his 'wrinkled' sweats? Ugh, I can't think about it any more.
Anyway, he got promoted again and I ironed through Fiona's treatment and now he's a high level manager in his office and I HAVE to iron. I put it off a few weeks, including his vacation, and today I was overwhelmed by the clothing that needed to be ironed. Plus, there are a few items of the girls that have to be ironed. I need to be better at finding things that are no wrinkle, although, we have a few things and I don't really believe them, they seemed to still need at least a swipe of the iron. What I really need to do is stay on top of the few shirts and pants that come through every week. We'll see how that goes.

I pretty much never iron. Those wrinkle-free shirts, when hung immediately from the drier, are good enough for us. I have a few items that need to be ironed, and consequently never wear them. At this point, I have no pride. Seems like ironing would be a good in-front-of-the-TV activity though, if you really have to do it.
Since my hubby is in the military, ironing is also a part of my weekly chores. Fortunately for me, they've recently gone to a "wash and wear" uniform that works exactly as advertised! So now I can put off the ironing of blue shirts with exact creases until it must be done...when, as Liz suggested, it will positively be done in front of the TV.

I hate the hassle of preparing to iron. Breaking out the board, heating up the iron, blah, blah, blah. But once I get going, I enjoy ironing. You see instant results with minimal physical work. Unlike say, scrubbing the tub which is high on the work side and may not yield visible results depending on how dirty the tub was to begin with.
La, la, la, I'm rambling... Hey, the word verification is firtshes which sounds like it should be a real word. A funny sounding word. La, la, la..
Ok, tell me that you follow some of the blogs I have listed as "Oregon Friends" on my blog. Either that, or there is a HUGE coincidence going on in the universe. :) Because...a friend of mine just posted about ironing today, and she used the *same exact picture*! Either you saw her post and felt similarly inspired to blog about ironing, or really, there's something in the air. :)
In the big city, sometimes there are cheap dry cleaning places that you can just have them clean and press. I still even take Tal's into the nearest city for the must-have pressed shirts. A luxury that I cling to!
I agree with juli ... I've never ironed Brian's shirts or pants. There are just too many. We found a good place here that does clean and press for $1.25 per shirt (more for pants, but he wears those a few times before they have to be cleaned), and they deliver! Well worth it! Just a thought ...
I still iron a few things for the kids and me, but I also ALWAYS do it in front of the TV. Helps it not be quite so painful.
I forgot to say that I like the photo you found to put with this post. Shows just how I feel about most housework!
I have had the same thing happened... husband got promoted and throwing things back in the dryer to fluff just doesn't cut it anymore.... So now I have an 18 inch pile on top of my ironing board calling my name. How long can I procrastinate?
My husband irons his own stuff :0 I'm a bad bad wife haha
