A Snoozer at the Grocery Store

What is it about the grocery store, just about any grocery store, that puts me to sleep. I put off the weekly trip to SuperWalmart until today. I can't put it off any longer because I NEVER go grocery shopping on Saturday. It only takes me 5 minutes to drive there, in 'traffic', but I have built it up in my mind. It was even worse when I went to Winco, which was over 4 miles away. Between the traffic there and the Portland rainy weather, I really dreaded the shopping trip.
But, it seems every time I am headed for the grocery store I am tired! And when I get a cart and start drifting through aisles it gets worse. I am greeting people right and left with the sight of where my tonsils should be.
I think maybe it starts when I am planning the menus. Between all the picky majesties that live in my house, I am limited in what I can cook. Top this week off with late duty for hubby and my impetus for cooking meals is gone.
Do you think grocery stores have radon leaks? Or a fan blowing over warmed milk? In order to recover from the snooze fest that was my grocery trip I had to come home and sit down on my couch, watch Tivo'ed Beverly Hills 90210 (don't tell anyone or my credibility is shot!) and eat Ghirardelli squares. My favorite chocolate from my favorite city. It makes it all better that I only eat the dark chocolate. Plus, they support Make A Wish. So, I am clearly doing only good while eating too much chocolate. Thank heavens I won't have to recover from grocery shopping for another week.

Oh, this made me laugh out loud! My daughter asked me to explain what the heck I found so funny! I have heard so many moms talk about this syndrome. It does make you seriously wonder if there is some retail science to the mind-numbing qualities of grocery stores. It doesn't matter if I have a list or not, if I've got all five kids or I'm all alone - I *always* space out when I shop. And I HEAR you about the whole Winco thing - at least at Walmart they bag your stuff (although that was usually enough at Winco to snap me out of my comotose state). :-)

ps...no credibility issues with 90210! After all, if I had Tivo it would probably be full of Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!

I love to grocery shop but hate to plan meals for the same reason as you. My family can't agree on anything and it makes me crazy.

Shopping makes me tired -- grocery or otherwise. I've learned that I'm just not someone who enjoys shopping. That makes the husband pretty happy, I'm sure you can imagine.

I haven't checked your blog in awhile. It's good see life in Texas is for the most part good.

And I totally hate grocery shopping too. It's such a chore. Chocolate eating on the other hand is one of my favorite things. Except, that for some reason pregnancy has taken away my chocolate cravings. Weird.

Aaaaaaaahhhhh...you are forbidden to talk about Ghiradelli chocolate squares while I'm trying to eat healthy. What I wouldn't give for one of those dark chocolate, mint filled squares.

Okay, back to reality. I swear by grocery delivery. Most major chains deliver now for free if you spend over $150. And the drivers don't accept tips. Man it's a beautiful thing. I highly recommend it.
