What do you do

when you love your child, but she wakes you up before 7am on a Saturday morning because she was up thinking about her new adventure in a new school? Here, in our school district, after 4th grade, the kids head off to intermediate school after elementary school. They say it's also considered an elementary school, but there are lockers, separate wings for the two grades, no real recess and they switch teachers for different classes.
I took Buttercup and her friend to the school yesterday to get their schedules and locker assignments. We roamed the hallways to figure out where lockers and classrooms were. Then we spent some time trying to figure out how to work the lockers. The girls did, that is. They thought I was some sort of locker genius. I told the girls that I would take them back to the school on Monday and let them practice on the lockers again.
Then we came home and I got to listen to all of the friend calling that went on. The girls were trying to figure out if any of their friends were in their classes. Then they discussed where and when they would meet every single day. I explained to Buttercup that most of her close friends would be riding the same bus as she was and they could make plans every morning.
Ugh and now, she's up before dawn to stare at the map and figure more things out. This would be fine, but she let the cats in and then we get to hear the beep, beep, beep, from the alarm. Now all of my plans for the day are up in the air because I am too tired to contemplate a Pilates class this morning. I am glad that I am going to leave town next week. TD can deal with the escalating excitement for the start of school. I can only take so much sleep deprivation.

I am plugging my ears so I don't hear about school starting!

I completely understand the sleep deprivation thing. It sounds like a very interesting set up for 5th and 6th grade. It doesn't sound very elementary school-ish.
