My, How Times Have Changed

This is my big brother and I about thirty years ago. Wow, now I feel old. This was a few knocked out teeth, a car incident (or two), a broken engagement with a guy who suddenly became my big brother's BFF , ago. Not bitter, well, not any more. It took a few years. We had such a tough relationship. We are 17 months apart and for the longest time we were the biggest competitors. In college we took a Sociology class together and got the exact same grade on each exam. We didn't miss the same questions, that certainly would've been questionable. I was able to accurately guess the gender and quantity of each of their family's pregnancies basing it solely on what would've been the most competitive. How impressive is that? But after my pregnancy with Fiona, which humbled more than I could ever have guessed, and an amazing opportunity to bond with his preemie, any remaining bad feelings completely evaporated.
This is us now!
And the big cheesy grin on my face isn't there just because someone pointed a camera in my direction. It's because I got to see my big brother again. I don't think I've seen him in a couple of years. And I have missed him. I even told him that.
We both came spouse less to the wedding and we spent most of the weekend together. When it came time to leave I cried....me, over him! That should impress those of you who remember the two of us back then. I had such a good time with him. I have a feeling our promised trip to visit him and his family is going to come sooner rather than later.

Here's what I can't figure out. Why does he look NOTHING like he did in high school? Maybe in real life there's a resemblance, but based on pictures, I would walk right by him on the street. Fascinating -- maybe he was kind of a late bloomer? So glad you guys are close now. One of the great joys of adulthood.

I was going to ask him who he thought he looked like in our family. It might be weight gain because he was so scrawny in high school, but he doesn't really look like most of our family. Oh and he grew a few more inches since high school.
